Inspired by Space Hulk

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

If you liked the Games Workshop game Space Hulk but always wanted a fantasy version, you will like DD Dungeons. It uses a similar concept of play by turn/spend action points to move through the map. The enemy Goblins and Orcs appear from cracks and there is no end to the hordes of green-skins.

It is all about strategy. You have to think through every move to make most use of the limited number of action points available per turn. A single clever move could win the game, as a poor move will lose it.

The game is simple in concept yet complex to master.

It might be new but it is also popular!

Thanks to all those who have play tested the game so far. I was expecting a few oddballs such as myself but I did not expect so many.

Perhaps we oddballs are the norm. Even with so few missions and limited help people are picking it up and enjoying the challenge that each mission provides.

How to Play DD Dungeons

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I have started a “How to Play” on the citadel page. It is simple but I do not want to get too detailed as the game is still developing, and changing all the time. The basics are there though.

The Greater Strategy

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Now that the game is up and running one begins to consider the greater game as a whole. One possible route is to let players keep characters, and gain experience as well as items or armour and weapons. Rather like a MMORPG, but probably without PvP. It would mean having either a lot of quests/levels for various level of parties or even random map generation.

The other route is similar with characters being saved but running campaigns instead. Again this would mean a lot of quests.

Orcs

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Orcs have been added as a random replacement for Goblins. They are not as common but keep an eye out for them. They have 3AP so they can move 3 squares a turn. This should add a new dimension to the strategy you use.

DD Dungeons is live and in beta testing!

This is a game I have wanted to make for a long time, and now it is ready to be tested. It is a fantasy strategy browser based online game. You play the part of 3 heroes sent into the dungeons of great Jah-Gonrah, the mountain city to destroy the hordes of the dark Lord Grudas.

Hello world!

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

And so begins the DicingDangers blog. This is a place for running and testing online games created by “Fenris” and helpers. A couple of games have come and gone. Now DicingDangers Dungeons is live and in beta testing. So far there has been little marketing but a few people have tried it out and the game is being developed.
